A black oxide layer with a chromium content of 60 - 70 % and a hardness of 250 - 300 HV is deposited. The black chrome coatings are nowhere near as scratch and wear-resistant as bright chrome coatings, but are as corrosion-resistant as micro-cracked chrome coatings.
