Matt nickel plating is a surface treatment that is created by electrolytically depositing nickel on a substrate. Compared to conventional shiny nickel, the matt variant has a lower reflectivity. This makes it ideal for applications where a reflective finish is undesirable, e.g. instruments or devices where glare is to be avoided. The coating also offers increased corrosion resistance and abrasion resistance.

The areas of application for matt nickel plating have expanded considerably in recent years. It is used to a greater extent in the optical industry and in the automotive industry for the treatment of various applications. In particular, these coatings are used in the fittings industry, for household appliances, in weapons technology, for metal furniture and in medical technology for medical instruments.

The coating is also used as a repair coating and against hot gas corrosion.
